Expressing your sense of urgency or direction by clearly defining a Serious Problem gives the motivation to develop new products and the strength to keep going when the process seems tough.

A deep understanding of the Serious Problem is crucial. This is where our boots will get dirty.

Since we’re developing a new product we cannot depend on existing designs and technology only but need to add creativity to the mix. Creating something inventive together, with your feet firm on the ground, is often the most fun yet challenging part of the process.

Creating order in the chaos

Although the steps in an innovation journey seem straightforward, reality shows that many iterations are required to successfully develop a new product. New insights, failing prototypes or changing circumstances can lead to a chaotic process which needs to be managed accordingly.
